Final project

The reason I have uploaded my final video and my evaluation so close together is because every time I tried to finalise my movie it came up with the error report below so I couldn’t upload it anywhere so I got my audience to view it on the iMac I was using so I could still get my evaluation done without having to rush it.

But here is my final project.

Song has to be a song that no-one will have heard of and possibly non-copyright.

Location: My house.

·         Nice big space

·         Perfect layout.

·         Typical teenage bedroom

·         Modern family house

·         Looks lived in

·         Spotlighting in bedroom = even lighting

·         Believable as there are lots of access points for zombies

·         Carpeted stairs = safe

Problems with location

·         Crème carpets = easily stained

·         Light tiled floor in kitchen = easily stained

·         Lots of corners to run around

·         Some lights aren’t even so some characters will be overexposed while others in shadow.

Problem

I had a slight issue with my work that needs putting on my blog. I had a problem with my laptop at home which now means I can’t it start up, this means I have to do my storyboard, shot list, location research, information on my actors, shooting schedule and my actual filming again because it was all saved on my laptop which I now can’t access. This also means I only have limited time to do my work as the only computers I can use are at school.

Saul Bass

Saul Bass (May 8, 1920 – April 25, 1996) was a graphic designer and filmmaker, best known for his design of film posters and motion picture title sequences.During his 40-year career Bass worked for some of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers, including Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese.
He did work for numerous movies, including classics such as Psycho, Casino, West Side Story, Anatomy of a Murder and dozens of others. He won numerous awards, including an oscar in 1969 for best documentary for "Why Men Creates." In 1965 won Lion of San Marco award for Best Film about Adolescence for the film "The Searching Eye". In 1994 won Time-Machine Honorary Award and in 1984 won Special Award for the movie "Quest." He is also well known in the publishing/advertising industry, for example, he designed the corporate identity of United Airlines as well as poster for the Los Angeles Olympic games in 1984. He had a very successful career working on some of the best movies of the 20th century, he died on april 25h, 1996 in Los Angeles.
Bass’ techniques are various and decidedly inconsistent: cutout animation, montage, live action, and type design to name only his more prominent exercises. Secondly, Bass exhibits an exemplary use of color and movement. Often sequences begin with a solid, empty frame of color (as with Exodus’ blue or North by Northwest’s green). His design tactic in this context, although characteristic, possesses subtly and variety. It's a cliché, but Saul Bass really has done it all. Films. Packaging. Products. Architecture. Corporate identification. Graphics. His work surrounds us.

Script

Script:

(Scene opens with a group of teenage girls sitting in a living room, taking vodka shots, laughing and chatting)
S.G: (Looks round to all the girls) Who’s hard enough for more vodka shots then?
S.B: I would but we’ve run out.
L.M: (Disappointed) What? I’m not even tipsy yet.
H.B: (Stands up and smiles) It’s fine, I’ve got tequila in my bag. I will make up some tequila shots.
(The rest of the girls watch H.B leave then turn to each other)
H.W: So what are you guys doing tomorrow?
L.M: Dunno. I’ve got loads of coursework to catch up on.
Everyone: (at different times and nodding) same!
S.B: I was hoping to be recovering from tonight, but it looks like this could be quite boring seeing as we’ve already run out of vodka. (Rests head on hand)
S.G: (angrily) Hey! I am here you know. (Turns to face the door and shouts) Hannah close the front door it’s freezing. (Turns back to the group)
(Slight pause of silence)
L.M: (looks at the floor) Sarah does have a point though.
S.B: (raises hand in acknowledgement) Thank you!
H.W: (Glances at door) do you think Hannah’s ok?
S.G: (smirks) I’m sure she’s fine.
(Glass crash and screams from kitchen are heard)
S.B: (Rolls eyes and face palms) Fucking hell she can’t even make some simple shots without messing up.
(Struggling heard)
(Group run to kitchen to kitchen and see zombie 1 and2 eating the stomach of H.B)
L.M: (Screams) What the fuck is happening?
S.G: (Faces group and orders) Everyone upstairs now!
(All girls apart from H.B run upstairs and into Sev’s room)
(Sev pulls out items that could be used as weapons including a gun)
L.M: (Worried) Why have you got a gun in your room?
S.G: (Smirks) Because I’m prepared for anything.
(Pause)
S.G: Well (puffs cheeks) we can’t stay in here forever. (Reaches for the door handle) You lot stay by the door and I will turn the hallway light on.
H.W: (Widens eyes) What? On your own?
S.G: (faces H.W) Yes! It will be too crowded and dangerous if we all go together.
(S.G opens door and ducks into the bathroom, reaches her hand round the door frame, turns the light on and stands in the bathroom door way)
S.G: See it’s fine.
(S.G raises gun and shoots into darkness of empty bedroom and zombie 1 falls dead through the doorframe.
Everyone except S.G: (gasp at separate times)
H.W: (Shocked) Oh my god!
S.G: Rule 1. Always be aware.

Questionnaire and result

Summary of film:

There are a group of teenagers in living room talking, eating, watching a scary film etc. They start doing vodka shots until, they run out of vodka. A girl says she has some tequila in her bag so will prepare some tequila shots in the kitchen. The group are just chatting away when they feel a cold breeze the main girl shouts to the girl in the kitchen to shut the door but there is no answer, suddenly, they hear glass smash and screaming. They all run to the kitchen to find two zombies eating the insides of their friend. Someone in the group screams, alerting the zombies, so they all run upstairs and lock themselves in the main girls bedroom. The main girl starts pulling out weapons from all around the room. She hands each member of the group a weapon. Main girl opens the door slowly, all the lights are off so she goes across the landing and hides just out of sight in the bathroom so she can reach round into the landing to turn the light on, and the others stay where they are. As she turns the light she shoots into the darkness of an empty room and a zombie falls on the floor dead. She says “rule 1 don’t hesitate to kill.”

Final project pitches and distribution

Pitch 1:
Group of teenagers in living room talking, eating, watching a scary film etc. Door upstairs slams, group gets scared and main girl comforts them and goes upstairs to check for open windows, one window is open but she ignores it and the girl goes back downstairs. Carry on with evening, one of the characters starts coughing and has a fever but just claims it’s the flu, there is a massive blackout and screams are heard, lights come back on and the character who was previously coughing is standing facing the group pale, blood coming from mouth and breathing heavily then tries to launch itself at the group, group try and run out of the house but zombies are coming at them through the unlocked doors and windows. They lock themselves in the kitchen and establish that the girl has turned into a zombie and that they are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and they need to get tooled up. They all grab knives, saucepans etc. and there is a shot of them facing the door, ready to attack.

Pitch 2:
Group of teenagers in living room talking, eating, watching a scary film etc. The main girl starts pulling out weapons from all around the room and says “I’m always prepared.” She hands each member of the group a weapon. They speculate if they should leave the room and decide they can’t stay in there forever. Main girl opens the door slowly, all the lights are off so she goes across the landing and hides just out of sight in the bathroom so she can reach round into the landing to turn the light on, and the others stay where they are. As she turns the light on it startles a zombie and it launches itself at her friends but she shoots it before it can get to them and she says “rule 1 don’t hesitate to kill.”

Target audience: Older teens/ young adults. Rated: 15 – violence, strong language and scenes of a sexual nature.
Genre: Horror
Similar products: Zombieland.

Film Distributors (Horror)

I did some research into different film companies that distribute films to help me decide which one I will choose to be the distributor of my film through my company Vamp Girl Productions.

New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema, often simply known as New Line, is one of the major American film studios. It was founded in 1967, and although it initially began as an independent film studio, it became a subsidiary of Time Warner in 1996. New Line Cinema operated several divisions, including theatrical distribution, marketing, home video, and was a partner in new (and relatively short-lived) distribution company called Picturehouse.

Miramax Films

Miramax Films is an art house/independent film production company that both produced and distributed films including foreign films with over its 31-year history.

Columbia Pictures

Columbia Pictures a film production and distribution company. Columbia Pictures now forms part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. It is one of the leading film companies in the world, a member of the so-called Big Six. It was one of the so-called Little Three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Rogue Pictures

In 2004, Rogue Pictures was launched as a label under Universal-owned Focus Features, with the label's goal being "high-quality suspense, action, thriller and urban features with mainstream appeal and franchise potential". In 2005, Universal expanded the operations of Rogue Pictures so it would become a stand-alone division. Rogue Pictures’ new goal was to distribute 10 films annually. Toward the end of the year, Universal and Rogue signed a deal with the newly formed production company Intrepid Pictures to produce, co-finance, and distribute films

Universal Studios

Studios (sometimes called Universal City Studios or Universal for short), is one of the six major American movie studios. Its main motion picture production/distribution arm is called Universal Pictures.

Twisted Pictures

Twisted pictures have grossed more than half a billion dollars from one of the most popular horror movies series that has seen several sequels over the past decade: The Saw series. They are primarily focused towards producing horror films but have are a fairly recent company having only been present since, roughly, 2003.

The distributor that I have chosen to use is Twisted Pictures as it is a primarily involved in the production of horror movies. I have chosen this company to distribute my company’s Vamp Girl Productions horror film The Fun-dead that I have produced. I also chose this distributor because although it is a fairly new company, it has distributed quite a lot of successful horror films such as The Saw series, Dead Silence etc. This shows that this distributor has a good knowledge of horror films, which will be an advantage to the distribution of my film.
