Final project pitches and distribution

Pitch 1:
Group of teenagers in living room talking, eating, watching a scary film etc. Door upstairs slams, group gets scared and main girl comforts them and goes upstairs to check for open windows, one window is open but she ignores it and the girl goes back downstairs. Carry on with evening, one of the characters starts coughing and has a fever but just claims it’s the flu, there is a massive blackout and screams are heard, lights come back on and the character who was previously coughing is standing facing the group pale, blood coming from mouth and breathing heavily then tries to launch itself at the group, group try and run out of the house but zombies are coming at them through the unlocked doors and windows. They lock themselves in the kitchen and establish that the girl has turned into a zombie and that they are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and they need to get tooled up. They all grab knives, saucepans etc. and there is a shot of them facing the door, ready to attack.

Pitch 2:
Group of teenagers in living room talking, eating, watching a scary film etc. They start doing vodka shots until, they run out of vodka. A girl says she has some tequila in her bag so will prepare some tequila shots in the kitchen. The group are just chatting away when they feel a cold breeze the main girl shouts to the girl in the kitchen to shut the door but there is no answer, suddenly, they hear glass smash and screaming. They all run to the kitchen to find two zombies eating the insides of their friend. Someone in the group screams, alerting the zombies, so they all run upstairs and lock themselves in the main girls bedroom. The main girl starts pulling out weapons from all around the room and says “I’m always prepared.” She hands each member of the group a weapon. They speculate if they should leave the room and decide they can’t stay in there forever. Main girl opens the door slowly, all the lights are off so she goes across the landing and hides just out of sight in the bathroom so she can reach round into the landing to turn the light on, and the others stay where they are. As she turns the light on it startles a zombie and it launches itself at her friends but she shoots it before it can get to them and she says “rule 1 don’t hesitate to kill.”

Film Distributors (Horror)

I did some research into different film companies that distribute films to help me decide which one I will choose to be the distributor of my film through my company Vamp Girl Productions.

New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema, often simply known as New Line, is one of the major American film studios. It was founded in 1967, and although it initially began as an independent film studio, it became a subsidiary of Time Warner in 1996. New Line Cinema operated several divisions, including theatrical distribution, marketing, home video, and was a partner in new (and relatively short-lived) distribution company called Picturehouse.

Miramax Films

Miramax Films is an art house/independent film production company that both produced and distributed films including foreign films with over its 31-year history.

Columbia Pictures

Columbia Pictures a film production and distribution company. Columbia Pictures now forms part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. It is one of the leading film companies in the world, a member of the so-called Big Six. It was one of the so-called Little Three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Rogue Pictures

In 2004, Rogue Pictures was launched as a label under Universal-owned Focus Features, with the label's goal being "high-quality suspense, action, thriller and urban features with mainstream appeal and franchise potential". In 2005, Universal expanded the operations of Rogue Pictures so it would become a stand-alone division. Rogue Pictures’ new goal was to distribute 10 films annually. Toward the end of the year, Universal and Rogue signed a deal with the newly formed production company Intrepid Pictures to produce, co-finance, and distribute films

Universal Studios

Studios (sometimes called Universal City Studios or Universal for short), is one of the six major American movie studios. Its main motion picture production/distribution arm is called Universal Pictures.

Twisted Pictures

Twisted pictures have grossed more than half a billion dollars from one of the most popular horror movies series that has seen several sequels over the past decade: The Saw series. They are primarily focused towards producing horror films but have are a fairly recent company having only been present since, roughly, 2003.

The distributor that I have chosen to use is Twisted Pictures as it is a primarily involved in the production of horror movies. I have chosen this company to distribute my company’s Vamp Girl Productions horror film The Fun-dead that I have produced. I also chose this distributor because although it is a fairly new company, it has distributed quite a lot of successful horror films such as The Saw series, Dead Silence etc. This shows that this distributor has a good knowledge of horror films, which will be an advantage to the distribution of my film.
